Dear Friends and fellow marchers,
We are now only a week away from the arrival of the World Marchers here in Los Angeles. It has been a tremendous endeavor getting the events together and fundraising from scratch to make them happen, but we are now looking set to give a beautiful welcome to those world walkers who at their own expense and with great sacrifice are travelling carrying the Abolition flame and calling for Peace and Nonviolence.
The time for all of us to pull together is now! We need a few volunteers for Dec 2 Los Angeles events for the World March for Peace and Nonviolence to do the following:
Starting now: Someone to make a banner to hang in front of Immanuel Presbyterian announcing the events next Wednesday. Last week they had a king size sheet that someone had sewn letter on announcing a Rummage sale they held last Saturday. Someone living in LA would be ideal for this task. The sooner it is up, the more people will see it.
Media contacts for the Press Conference at 10am!
Noon: Staffing lunch tables and bringing food donations at the lunchtime greeting with Tongva Nation at the Farmlab; This could be as simple as letting me know what you will be bringing. We do not yet know exactly how many people will be there but I think we are safe to say about 25 people.
6pm and onward:
Hospitality for special guests. Looking after key participants at the “ALL” Peace Concert including speakers for the event, elders and dignataries. This involves welcoming them when they arrive at the location, ensuring speakers know when they are to speak, and ensuring elders are able to participate in the walk or find alternative short-cuts (e.g. some will skip the walk and come directly to Immanuel Presbyterian.
Health and safety. Someone with first aid experience to staff a first aid kit in case of any accidents;
March escorts to ensure people walk safely along the route;
Car pooling some people parked at UTLA Parking structure to the start of the March at Wilshire & Alvarado. (1 mile)
Please let us know if you can assist with any of these? Reply by email with your pledge.
Thank you,
Mayra
